Imprisioning (Week 12; Post 3)

The holidays can surely be stressful and difficult times--imprisoning even-- especially for those who have recently lost loved ones. To all of you out there, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Black and white seemed appropriate for this photo.

Crate & Barrel (Week 12; Post 2)

I had always wondered what the Crate & Barrel outlet store in Alexandria sold so I decided to go take a look. While, I wasn't totally impressed by what was inside (I think I prefer the regular C&B), I liked their sign and the lighting. I took an rather ordinary picture and transformed it using a couple of techniques in Camera Raw and then a few filters in Photoshop.

Assignment: Ordinary to Extaordinary (Week 9; Post #3)

An ordinary picture of berries morphs into an extraordinary one! Vamping up some saturation and fixing the lighting levels gave this picture some umph! In addition, a diffuse glow filter was placed over the berries and the branches in the foreground were texturized.

Vanishing Point on K Street (Week 9; Post 2)

Today, I went to the Corcoran for an Adobe Photoshop lecture given by one of the brightest in the industry! I learned so many neat tricks that will totally enhance my Photoshop skills. Gotta love FotoWeek DC. I'm so glad I stayed in this city to go to school, even though it is close to home because this city is so rich, both culturally & aesthetically speaking. I hope you enjoy my Vanishing Point on K street :) Happy Saturday!

Metro Madness (Week 8; Post 2)

Metro at 6:30 pm. I thought this would make a cool picture--not exactly at rush hour, but not too far thereafter. I heavily edited the exit at the top using lighting effects.

Assignment #6: The Unseen (Week 8; Post 1)

This is a sad pillar, which rests at St. Aloysius Church in Washington, DC. I am not quite sure what made this pillar so sad. Perhaps it was listening to one too many dull homilies! ;)

Hair Extensions (Week 7; Post 1)

As I was walking through Tysons Galleria today, I spotted these three cute girls selling hair extensions. As good sales people know, sporting the product you are selling is a must. These girls gladly posed for me when I asked to take their pic. I would never buy hair extensions, but they look great on these girls!

HomemadeYoga Bag (Week 6; Post 3)

Here is a picture of a yoga bag that I made with the help of my mom! I just started practicing yoga this summer, and I now do it twice a week in 95-100 degree heat. I absolutely love it!

Wine (Week 6; Post 2)

Here are bottles of wine I captured. My roommate, Laura, put them on our stove. I think they add character to the kitchen, which we desperately need since the decorations in my apartment are quite sparse!

Assignment #4: Light & Shadow (Week 6; Post 1)

I took this picture this afternoon in Arlington, VA. I liked the crisp, dark shadow that reflected off of the yellow and blue fire hydrant. I thought the black shadow contrasted well with the brick tiling on the ground. This is an example of how the relationship between light and shadow.

I took this picture in my neighbor's yard in Bethesda tonight following my brother's 18th birthday party! They do a pretty good job of decorating for Halloween, and I was intrigued by the way the lighting is used to make the smoke visible. This is a great example of how lighting is used to highlight smoke.

My Brother (Week 5; Post 1)

My brother is on Fall Break this week so he and his girlfriend met me in Silver Spring for lunch! We ate at Noodles & Company and then went to DSW and Whole Foods. When we all got in the car, they began driving me back to the metro so that I could go back to school. I sat in the passengers seat and said, "Sorry Chris, I've got to blog for photography today." Much to my surprise, he let me snap a couple of photos of him! Here is my favorite, both in color and in black and white. I used the burn and dodge tool a bit in Photoshop to add a little "umph" to the photo. Enjoy!

I had a glorious time exploring a new city, but now I must leave for DC. Here is a final snapshot from Chicago, a beautiful black and white skyline, taken from the Navy Pier. Go visit!

Van Buren Street Bridge (Week 4; Post 2)

I took a picture of buildings behind the Van Buren Street Bridge in Chicago while on a boat enjoying the Chicago Architecture Cruise! I loved the cruise, even though it was a bit long, as Chicago's buildings are VERY architecturally pleasing. I LOVE this picture in B&W.

CHICAGO!! (Week 4; Post 1)

I went to Chicago this weekend to celebrate Columbus!! And, of course, my camera went with me. Here are some of my favorite shots from Saturday.

The first pictures are of the Chicago theater. Although I did not go to see Ms. D-List perform, I did capture the theater's famous sign, which is often photographed. I like it in color and in black and white. I think the black and white gives it an "old" looking effect, which is cool.

I also captured some guys on the street playing "the drums," using drum sticks and painters buckets. The picture captures motion, and the line in the middle helps to create balance between the two guys. I think this picture works well in greyscale.
